On 31st March we helped employees of South Staffs Council plant trees in Bilbrook. Two areas were chosen to plant about 400 trees. These were Jubilee Wood and ‘The Oval’, next to Codsall Community High School. The trees in Jubilee Wood were planted to replace ones which had died. The trees in The Oval were part of a new scheme which will also include fruit trees to be planted in the Winter 21/22 by The Forest of Mercia.
The tree species were all UK indigenous trees and included oak, hazel, blackthorn, hawthorn, birch and willow.
South Staffordshire Council has declared a climate emergency in their district and these trees will help it to achieve Net Zero status by 2030. They will sequester CO2, a greenhouse gas, as well as provide habitat and a food source for nature, help reduce noise levels, flood risk from heavy rainfall and pollution from internal combustion engine vehicles.
